Welcome to CT Zero Energy Challenge

The CT Zero Energy Challenge is a design and build competition for energy efficient homes built in Connecticut.

Homes that consume almost no energy. Homes that produce energy on-site. Homes with cleaner air. Advanced designs and integrated systems that are changing the way we think about residential construction. That's what this nationally-recognized Challenge is all about.

Since 2010, Connecticut builders, architects and their clients have been on the forefront of super energy efficient and near zero energy home construction. Approximately 90 homes have been built throughout the state, featuring the latest advances in design and integrated systems.

The Challenge uses the RESNET Rating Standards to determine each completed home's HERS Index while informing on the technology and techniques it takes to build super energy efficient, near zero energy homes. Common features include photovoltaic systems or solar energy systems, insulated concrete forms, structural insulated panels, geothermal heat and air conditioning.

Each home receives incentives for building with advanced techonologies through the Residential Construction program. Homes entered into the competition may be awarded prizes up to $5,000 depending on final HERs Rating, afforability of construction and net operating costs.

Building a near Zero Energy Home is achievable today!
