Energy efficient appliances made to fit the style of your home with modern designs and premium features
When you buy an appliance, there are two price tags: the price of the appliance and the cost of the energy (and sometimes water) to run it. Choosing energy-saving ENERGY STAR certified appliances can reduce those operating costs by 10 to 50 percent compared with standard models and even more compared with older models in your home.
The Energize Connecticut sponsors work with retailers and manufacturers to promote ENERGY STAR appliances. ENERGY STAR is a widely recognized and trusted label on products that meet strict energy efficiency requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. These products use less energy and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change without sacrificing performance or design.
You’ll find the ENERGY STAR label on more than 65 different kinds of products, including appliances. Look for refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes washers and dehumidifiers that carry the ENERGY STAR. They’re made to fit the style of your home with modern designs and premium features.
Refrigerators/Freezers
Refrigerators are one of the biggest energy users in your home. ENERGY STAR-certified refrigerators are about 9-10 percent more energy efficient than standard models, and freezers are at least 10 percent more energy efficient.
Room Air Conditioners
ENERGY STAR certified room air conditioners are at least 10 percent more efficient than standard models. They often include timers for better temperature control, allowing you to use the minimum amount of energy you need to cool your room. By choosing an ENERGY STAR-certified model room air conditioner and using the energy-saving features, you make your home more comfortable and save energy and money.
Dishwashers
ENERGY STAR-certified dishwashers are 10 to 20 percent more energy efficient than standard models. They also minimize water use and water heating costs through innovative design features and controls.
Clothes Washers
The average American family washes about 300 loads of laundry each year. ENERGY STAR-certified clothes washers use about 20 percent less energy and 35 percent less water than regular washers. Available in front-load and top-load models, most have a greater tub capacity, which allows you to do fewer loads.
Dehumidifiers
Dehumidifiers reduce the amount of moisture in the air and help prevent mold, mildew and odor. An ENERGY STAR-certified dehumidifier is 15 percent more energy efficient than standard models.
The Energize Connecticut sponsors work with retailers throughout the state to make sure ENERGY STAR products are available to you. Look for the ENERGY STAR wherever you purchase appliances for energy savings. You can also learn more at the ENERGY STAR website.
