Winter is right around the corner, and Energize Connecticut has the energy-efficient solutions to get your home ready for the season.

The first step for many homeowners and renters is to participate in Energize CT’s Home Energy Solutions℠ (HES), a convenient, in-home service designed to help you save money on your energy bills and make your home more comfortable year round.

Eversource and The United Illuminating Company authorized contractors will come to your home or apartment and perform a thorough energy assessment to locate inefficiencies and pinpoint critical drafts and air leaks. Once identified, the specialists make on-the-spot energy improvements, which includes caulking critical areas, installing weather stripping as needed, and adding hot water pipe insulation. You may also receive energy efficient light bulb replacements, including LED lightbulbs, as well as water-saving aerators.

“The weatherization services offered through Home Energy Solutions will help seal your home so the warm air stays in and the cold air stays out,” Eversource Energy Efficiency spokesman Enoch Lenge said. “Combined with the installation of proper insulation, a HES service can also reduce the likelihood of ice dams forming on your roof.”

At the end of the visit, the specialists sit down with you to review all of the tests they performed. They will then discuss additional opportunities to improve your home’s energy performance, such as upgrading heating equipment and attic insulation, which can help keep ice dams away.

“Our specialists will provide you with a customized report that details potential savings and costs for additional upgrades,” United Illuminating Home Energy Solutions program manager Evan Seretan said. “They will also tell you about the rebates, instant discounts, and financing options you may be eligible for.”

While these services are valued at an average of over $1,000, the cost for the HES service is only $99, and the fee is waived making the service free for income-eligible residents. The average home in Connecticut will save approximately $250 annually after completing the initial HES visit.
