Residents raised over $14,000 by receiving energy efficiency services
HAMDEN, Conn. – Residents of Hamden made energy efficiency strides by participating in ‘Energize Hamden.’ Residents had the opportunity to sign-up for the Home Energy Solutions program, convert to high-efficiency natural gas, receive rebates, take advantage of reduced pricing and special financing on energy efficiency measures and heating and cooling equipment for their homes.
As a result of Energize Hamden, 217 Home Energy Solutions services were completed by New England Conservation Services, New England Smart Energy and Eco-Smart by R. Pelton Builders. In addition, 44 rebates were redeemed by Hamden residents for upgrades to more energy-efficient solutions. Hamden residents made the initiative to reduce energy around their homes while raising money for the Town. There was an estimated total annual energy savings of $82,494.90 in Hamden, roughly $420.89 per home.
“In 2014, smart energy choices translate directly into smart pocketbook choices. Hamden has always been a leader in advancing progressive energy solutions, and I am proud that the Energize Hamden initiative has continued that record of success,” said Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson.
“Not only did Hamden residents reduce their energy costs, they further helped the environment and were able to raise $14,175 for The Hamden Community Fund. The $14,175 raised was generously donated by our HES vendors,” Said Pat McDonnell, Sr. Director Conservation Load Management, The United Illuminating Company. Each time a resident received a Home Energy Solutions assessment, a donation was made to the Hamden Community Fund: $100 for the first 100 participants; $50 for the next 50 participants; and $25 for every resident participating thereafter.
McDonnell added, “We are pleased with the number of Hamden residents that participated in the initiative and we continue to encourage homeowners in the Hamden area take action and sign up to receive a home energy assessment and start saving money now” He said.
