Rebates and financing options available for homeowners who receive a Home Energy Solutions Assessment
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Feb. 11, 2015) – Winter is in full force and now is the perfect time for homeowners to button up their homes to keep the warm air in and the cold air out. For homeowners who are looking to make their homes more energy efficient and lower their energy bills, Energize Connecticut advises homeowners to sign up for the Home Energy Solutions™ (HES) program.
HES offers on-the-spot services to homeowners and renters for immediate savings, as well as rebates and additional resources to achieve further savings. A home energy assessment is a “physical check-up” determining how much energy a home uses and what improvements can be made to save money and energy, making your home more energy-fit.
HES services are provided with a co-pay of $99 for all customers. The Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible (HES-IE) program is free to income-qualified customers. All HES and HES-IE customers receive the following services:
• Diagnostic testing, blower door guided air sealing, duct sealing
• Installation of energy-saving light bulbs (including LEDs)
• Installation of water-saving tools like low-flow showerheads, faucet attachments and hot water pipe wrap
• Select appliances will be evaluated for possible rebates
• Educational energy-saving tips on how to further reduce energy costs
• Information on rebates and financing for additional upgrades, such as insulation and heating and cooling equipment
By participating in the program, homeowners will also be advised of what additional measures are recommended to make their home perform at the highest level of efficiency and save even more money.
“A home energy assessment is highly recommended for anyone looking to lower their energy costs,” said Robert Klee, commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). “By participating in the HES program you will have a better understanding of how your home wastes energy and what you can do to make your home more energy efficient.”
Sealing leaks and adding insulation for example are two of the most cost-effective ways to make a home more comfortable and energy efficient. Nearly half of a home’s heat loss is due to poorly insulated attics, ceilings and walls. With proper sealing and insulation, customers can reduce their heating and cooling costs by 20 percent annually. Implementing these measures will not only help homeowners save money and improve the overall comfort of their home, it will also help to fix many common problems, such as:
• Reduced noise from outside
• Less pollen and dust, creating a healthier environment
• Better humidity control with greater comfort
• Lower chance for ice dams on the roof/eves in snowy climates
As part of the Energize Connecticut initiative, the Connecticut Green Bank offers attractive financing options for energy-efficient home improvements to help homeowners enjoy the benefits of smart energy choices right away.
Additional lending partners like The Connecticut Housing Investment Fund, Inc. (CHIF), a private, non-profit organization supporting affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization projects since 1969, oversee these plans. In many cases, repayment is included in your monthly electric bill.
