On Monday, September 26, and Saturday, October 1, Eversource and the Town of West Hartford will host free light bulb swaps for residents as part of the 2016 ENERGY STAR^® Change the World Tour. The September 26 light bulb swap will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bishop’s Corner Senior Center, located at 15 Starkel Road. The October 1 light bulb swap will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Elmwood Community Center Auditorium, located at 1106 New Britain Avenue.  

West Hartford residents, with identification, may bring up to five incandescent light bulbs in any condition and exchange them for new, energy-efficient ENERGY STAR^® LED bulbs, free of charge while supplies last. Additional LEDs and lighting products will be available for purchase at a discounted rate.

“The LED giveaways are great opportunities for West Hartford residents to start saving money and energy at home,” Eversource’s Energy Efficiency spokesman Enoch Lenge said. “As part of the Change the World Tour, for each additional LED bulb purchased, another LED bulb will donated to Habitat for Humanity.”

Energy experts from Eversource will be on-hand at the light bulb swaps to answer questions and provide people with information on how they can save money and energy at home, including information on the popular in-home energy checkup, Home Energy Solutions^SM.

In 2012, West Hartford joined Clean Energy Communities, the nationally-recognized Energize Connecticut program to help cities and towns save energy and increase the installation of renewable energy. Eversource is currently working with West Hartford to help it reach its energy goals and reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018.

Through Clean Energy Communities, West Hartford residents that participate in Energize Connecticut programs – such as Home Energy Solutions – help the town earn points toward a grant. These “Bright Idea Grants” fund community-selected energy saving projects such as the upcoming light bulb swaps, or the installation of new LED lighting at town hall or a school.
