July and August are the warmest months in Connecticut and keeping your home cool and comfortable sometimes requires a closer look at the energy efficiency of your home. United Illuminating (UI) is helping Connecticut residents make their homes more comfortable and reduce their energy bills with the Home Energy Solutions™ program.
The program provides approximately $1,000 in services and residents who participate in the program save on average $200 on their annual energy bills. The entire process also serves as an educational resource, empowering homeowners to continue on a path to energy savings after the assessment is completed.
Described as a “physical check-up” of the home, the assessment provides on-the-spot energy-saving services that include the following:
• Comprehensive energy assessment
• Blower door guided air sealing and duct sealing
• Installation of energy-saving light bulbs, including LEDs and CFLs
• Installation of water-saving products like low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators and hot water pipe wrap
• Educational tips on how to further reduce home energy costs
• Information on rebates and financing for additional upgrades including insulation, windows, appliances, and heating and cooling equipment as applicable
• Health and safety testing and review of heating and cooling systems
“Many people don’t know where to begin, and that’s where we can help. The first step is to get an expert into your home to conduct a Home Energy Solutions energy assessment,” said Marissa Westbrook, manager of residential energy services, The United Illuminating Company. “On top of the immediate services and upgrades which will help keep homes cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, homeowners will learn what additional measures are recommended to make their homes more comfortable, perform at the highest level of efficiency, and save even more money. This really is a year-round investment into your home’s energy efficiency.”
Starting Sept. 1, 2016, customer co-payments for the HES program will be $124 as part of the approved statewide conservation and load management plan. Available to all UI, Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG), and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) customers, the program helps make homes more energy efficient and comfortable.
“Even with a small co-pay increase from $99 to $124, Home Energy Solutions will help people save money, but now is the time to get the greatest return,” said Westbrook.
In addition, attractive financing assistance is offered to homeowners looking to make significant or major energy efficient upgrades to their homes, such as insulation, heating and cooling installations and other major upgrades. Rebates may also be available for insulation and heating and cooling systems replacements.
