The Town of Stonington and Eversource are working together to help residents save energy and support the Stonington Fuel Bank by encouraging their participation in the Home Energy Solutions program, a popular in-home energy improvement service provided by Eversource and Energize Connecticut.

Customers typically pay $124 for the service, however, the first 100 Stonington residents that participate now through August 31 will pay just $74 due to a Bright Idea Grant earned through the town’s participation in Clean Energy Communities. This nationally-recognized Energize Connecticut program helps cities and towns save energy and increase the installation of renewable energy.

Now through December 31, for every Stonington homeowner and resident that participates in Home Energy Solutions, the Stonington Fuel Bank will also receive a donation from Eversource-authorized contractors, Lantern Energy and Uplands Construction.

“There’s more to Home Energy Solutions than money- and energy-saving benefits,” said Eversource Energy Efficiency Spokesman Enoch Lenge. “Our contractors also educate residents on health and safety measures, and evaluate everything from windows and insulation to appliances and heating and cooling systems. Though it’s a one-stop service, the contractor’s recommendations leave residents with long-term strategies to increase their home’s value.”

During the assessment, contractors make on-the-spot energy improvements and recommend further energy-saving opportunities to renters and homeowners. The service is valued at $1,000 with the difference covered by Energize Connecticut. Residents who participate save an average of $200 per year, but can reduce their energy costs even further if they take advantage of additional opportunities. Rebates for insulation, wi-fi thermostats, heating and cooling equipment, and ENERGY STAR® appliances are all provided as part of the service.

Additional service highlights include:
•Sealing around doors, windows, floor joists, and any other areas where air can escape (this service alone is valued at an average of $600)
•Energy-saving LED light bulbs
•Health and safety tests on heating equipment
•Water-saving showerheads and faucet aerators, and hot water pipe wrap
•A report detailing your home’s performance before and after the service, which includes educational tips on how to further reduce home energy costs
•Information on available financing
•Exclusive rebates on upgrades including insulation, windows, appliances, and heating and cooling equipment
