Energy-Saving Solutions for Every Apartment Type

You don’t have to own your house, apartment or condo to benefit from smart energy.

We connect you with simple energy-saving steps – no-cost and low-cost – that you can take right away in your apartment, condo or rental home.

Overview

Most renters in the Northeast spend $140 to $200 a month on energy costs1. You may be able to reduce what you spend on energy and make your apartment, condo or house more comfortable, with no-cost and low-cost energy-saving changes. Besides steps you can take yourself, you could benefit from on-the-spot improvements and advice through the Home Energy Solutions program.

Whether you pay utility costs directly or as part of your rent, you can make a difference by saving energy or supporting renewable energy.

The following no-cost and low cost tips offer some easy ways to get started regardless of where you live:

  • Turn off lights when they aren’t in use.
  • Use energy-saving light bulbs instead of traditional incandescent bulbs.
  • Use a fan during the summer months instead of an air conditioner.
  • Turn off your air conditioner when you leave your apartment or home.
  • If you control your heat in the winter, turn down the thermostat when you are not home and at night.
  • Install an energy-efficient showerhead to save on water heating costs.
  • Arrange your furniture so it doesn’t block or obstruct any heat vents, radiators or baseboard heaters. This includes drapes and curtains.
  • Sign up to support clean energy
