A Higher Score Means A More Energy-Efficient Home!

What is Your Home's Energy Score?

Designed for existing homes, the Home Energy Score is similar to a vehicle’s miles-per-gallon rating. The score, developed and administered by the U.S. Department of Energy, allows you to compare the energy performance of your home to other homes nationwide.

Overview

The process starts with signing up for a Home Energy SolutionsSM (HES) energy assessment that provides energy efficiency services to single family residences (1-4 units)  valued at approximately $1,000. A certified HES technician will collect energy information about your home during your HES energy assessment. All HES technicians are qualified U.S. Department of Energy Home Energy Score Assessors. Using the Home Energy Scoring Tool, the HES technician scores your home on a scale of 1 to 10, with a score of 10 indicating that the home has excellent energy performance. A score of 1 indicates the home needs extensive energy improvements.

For more information from the U.S. Department of Energy, visit the Home Energy Score website.

How We Can Help

During your HES visit, the HES technician will provide you with a Home Energy Score report that includes a list of recommended energy improvements and their estimated cost savings. You can use the list of recommended energy improvements provided, along with the Energize Connecticut rebates you received after your energy assessment, to prioritize your next steps and potentially improve your score.

Benefits

    • Improved energy efficiency will save you money on your utility bill and enhance the comfort of your home
    • The report provides recommendations that help you prioritize your future energy efficiency improvements and those improvements will increase your home’s score
    • If you're buying or refinancing your home, the Home Energy Score can help you qualify for a larger mortgage or more financing options
